The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has commended the Ghana Police Service for their engagement and support for the families of the two young girls who tragically lost their lives in the East Legon accident.

Speaking at the 53rd Cadet Officers’ Graduation Parade at the National Police Training School at Tesano on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, Dr Bawumia expressed how deeply touched he was and described the act as highly commendable.

According to Dr Bawumia, who is also the presidential candidate of the New patriotic Party (NPP), the initiative by the Inspector General of Police and his team to engage with the families privately goes beyond the call of duty for the police service.

He, therefore, urged the graduating police class to emulate the actions demonstrated by their leaders in the execution of their duties.

“The behind-the-scenes private engagements that the IGP, as well as his regional commanders, and the team to commiserate with victims of crime is highly commendable.

“In fact, I’m particularly touched by the recent visit of the IGP and his management team to the families and victims of the recent tragic accident at East Legon in Accra that claimed the lives of two innocent young ladies. This level of commitment goes beyond the call of duty and I will entreat the graduating class to learn from the police leadership…,” he said.

Background

The two young girls: Maame Dwomoh Boaten and Justine Agbenu, tragically died in a motor accident after Elrad Amoako, the 16-year-old son of the Head Pastor of Alive Chapel International Ministries, Archbishop Salifu Amoako, crashed his white Jaguar into the Honda Acura the girls were travelling in, killing them on the spot.

Both cars burst into flames after the collision, leaving the two girls trapped in the mangled car, burning to death.

However, the suspect driver survived and has now been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for the injuries he sustained in the accident.
