The incident occurred in the bustling area of Adum in broad daylight, leaving locals in shock and drawing in a significant crowd. No injuries were reported, but the situation quickly escalated, leading to arrests by the police.

According to a police report filed at the Kumasi Central Police Station, the confrontation began when a businessman, Kofi Mensah, approached the station to report a disturbance at a local pub.

Officers were dispatched to the scene and found that the argument had already reached a boiling point, with patrons and bystanders watching the drama unfold.

Witnesses reported that the officer, identified as Constable Kwame Boadu from the Manhyia District Police Station, was reportedly out socializing when he encountered Kofi Mensah and his female companion, Abena Serwaa.Six police officers interdicted over shooting incident in Lamashegu -  Asaase Radio

Constable Boadu allegedly expressed interest in Serwaa, which triggered an argument with Mensah. The exchange quickly turned physical, and the two men struggled for dominance in the crowded area.

“At first, it seemed like a regular argument, but then the officer stormed off and went to his car. He came back holding his service pistol,” one witness said. “He fired a shot into the air, warning Mensah to stay away from the woman.”

Mensah, unphased, reportedly continued to argue, which further provoked the officer. Police backup arrived within minutes and managed to de-escalate the situation, disarming Constable Boadu and securing his weapon.

They also took both men into custody to restore order and ensure public safety.

Items recovered from the scene included Constable Boadu’s pistol with remaining rounds and a spent shell casing. Local authorities expressed concern about the officer’s actions and promised a thorough investigation to determine if disciplinary measures are necessary.

A police spokesperson stated, “This behavior does not align with the values we expect from our officers. We will conduct a full inquiry.”

The police report filed details that both Constable Boadu and Kofi Mensah were held overnight at the Kumasi Central Police Station, pending further investigation.
