Man Utd’s January transfer budget revealed as Ruben Amorim finds out how much he’ll be able to spend

Manchester United’s January transfer budget has been revealed amid the club’s pursuit of Ruben Amorim, who is closing in on replacing Erik ten Hag.

Amorim is on the verge of becoming the next Man United manager following the dismissal of Ten Hag.

He made a name for himself following his managerial spell at Braga before enhancing his budding reputation at Sporting CP, where he has guided the club to two league titles.

Amorim has attracted interest from Liverpool and Chelsea over the years, with Man United set to appoint the 39-year-old as their new boss.

Should he succeed Ten Hag at Man United, then he will have a ‘limited budget’ to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window.

That’s according to journalist Jamie Jackson, who claims there is only modest finance to try to turn around the side’s fortune in the winter transfer window after spending over £200 million in the summer.

Man United splashed the cash during the summer transfer window, notably shelling out £52 million to acquire the services of Leny Yoro from Lille.

Manuel Ugarte, who played under Amorim at Sporting, cost an initial £42 million from Paris Saint-Germain.

Joshua Zirkzee commanded a fee of £36.5 million while the Red Devils spent £42.9 million and £17.2 million to sign Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui respectively from Bayern Munich.

Man United backed Ten Hag in the market ahead of the new season after deciding to extend his contract following a summer of intense speculation regarding his position.

It appears Amorim will have little money to spend in January should he land the job.

However, he could receive financial backing from the board next summer to land his own players that fit his style of play.
