Veteran Ghanaian actor Agya Koo has strongly refuted claims made by his daughter, Maame Brago, that he has been unsupportive of her dream to pursue a career in music. The Kumawood legend, in a candid interview with One Ghana TV, made it clear that his intentions were never to stifle her ambitions but rather to ensure she had a solid educational foundation before venturing into the entertainment industry.

According to YEN, Agya Koo stated, “It is not like I do not support her because she is a girl. Also, I wanted her to go to school. My child is very good when it comes to speaking English.”

The actor explained that he was aware of Maame Brago’s musical aspirations years ago and even confronted her mother about it. However, he was displeased to learn that his ex-wife had been secretly taking their daughter to music-related events and interviews without informing him.

“She started a long time ago, so when I got the information, I told her mother that it was something I did not like,” he revealed.

Agya Koo, who is also a musician, expressed disappointment that his daughter did not approach him directly for guidance. He emphasized that if she had, he could have mentored her and helped her navigate the music industry effectively.

Brago, in a 2024 interview with blogger De God Son, alleged that her stepfather had been more supportive of her music career than her biological father. The claim stirred public reactions, with many criticizing Agya Koo for not standing behind his daughter’s passion.

However, the actor insists that his stance was not about discouraging her but ensuring that she prioritizes her education before entertainment. He noted that his daughter is turning 17 soon and should complete her schooling with distinction before fully diving into music.

Agya Koo also disclosed that he has been in constant communication with Brago and has even consulted her teachers about additional subjects to support her academic growth. However, he alleged that her mother opposed these efforts.

The veteran actor’s response aims to set the record straight, making it clear that he is not against Maame Brago’s dreams but wants her to be well-equipped for success.
