Media personality and MC, Yaa Yeboah, has strongly criticized the leader of Alive Chapel International, Archbishop Salifu Amoako, for his insensitive remarks following an accident involving his 16-year-old son that claimed the lives of two girls at East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

The prominent religious leader has called for an end to public discussions surrounding the incident. Addressing his congregation at Alive Chapel International on Sunday, October 20, Bishop Amoako defended his son, emphasizing that the accident was an unfortunate event rather than an intentional act of violence. He urged Ghanaians to show restraint and stop sensationalizing the tragedy.

Bishop Amoako expressed deep frustration with the public’s reaction, stating that his son did not commit murder but was involved in an unforeseen and tragic accident.

“It was an accident. My son did not carry a gun to kill anybody. He involved himself in a terrible accident, and I am not the one who did it, nor is his mother. It is because of my name that people are talking,” he stated.

However, reacting to the Archbishop’s comments on UTV’s United Showbiz programme on Saturday, October 26, Yaa Yeboah condemned the Archbishop for what she perceived as reckless remarks.

According to her, it would have been better if the Archbishop’s son had shot the girls, causing their instant death, rather than them enduring agonizing pain before dying.

“…This whole thing about ‘my son didn’t hold a gun to kill anybody,’ Archbishop, pardon me, let me burst your bubble here. And I say this with all humility and respect. If your son had shot these people to death, it would have been better. Do you know why? Because at least that pain, agony, and torture they went through before they lost their lives… that pain they went through while sitting in the burning car, watching people outside who could have saved them but couldn’t due to the fire… if the boy had shot them dead, at least their families would have had bodies to bury. We can’t even tell which part of their charred bodies was retrieved for burial, whether it was the skull or other bones. That is how sad it is. So I repeat, Archbishop, if your son had shot them, it would have been better because that pain and torture they endured before they died would have been avoided. When you are shot with a gun, you die instantly, and you’re gone.”

She expressed disappointment in the Archbishop for his perceived insensitivity and recklessness.

“I am so disappointed and deeply hurt by the Archbishop’s comments. This confirms that you have previously confessed to driving in this country without a license, without a number plate, and that when the police see you, they salute you instead. You’ve even said that if any of them tries to arrest you, you’ll call their boss.

“So you knew that your son drives recklessly, but you never warned him. You took no precaution to prevent your son from getting access to a car, even though he’s not an authorized driver. You never scolded your son after videos circulated on social media of him driving recklessly many times before this tragic accident.”
