‘In 2016, We Didn’t Eat Roads’

Joyce Bawa Mogtari, spokesperson for the John Dramani Mahama campaign, has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for shifting their focus from economic issues to infrastructure projects as the 2024 elections approach as reported by Ghana Web on Saturday, October 26, 2024.

Her remarks come as the NPP, led by President Nana Akufo-Addo, promotes its achievements in infrastructure, particularly road projects, as a significant part of its campaign message.

Reflecting on the party’s stance during the 2016 election, Mogtari expressed surprise at the change in priorities. “In 2016, we didn’t eat roads. Weirdly enough, in 2024, they are paying and cajoling key influencers to promote roads as part of their propaganda for reelection,” she stated.

Mogtari recalled how, eight years ago, the NPP had encouraged Ghanaians to focus on “bread-and-butter” issues, asking them to scrutinize their pockets and vote for change.

Now, she argues, the same government is attempting to persuade voters with infrastructure projects, even enlisting influencers to emphasize the importance of road construction.

Using social media, she called out the administration directly, saying, “Please permit me to ask @NAkufoAddo and #Bawuliar if we are going to eat roads now because the NPP is in government. #GhanaDeservesBetter.”
