A video has emerged of popular activist and staunch supporter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Frank Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Appiah Stadium, making a passionate appeal to the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, to address the intermittent power outages in the Ashanti Region.

In a video shared on X by SikaOfficial on Monday, March 17, 2025, Appiah Stadium was seen on his knees as he appealed to John Jinapor to take immediate action to tackle the intermittent power outages, popularly referred to as ‘dumsor.’

He stated, “On Sunday, March 17, 2025, we experienced a power outage, so I am pleading with you to address this problem, because ‘dumsor’ can disgrace President Mahama.”

Meanwhile, John Jinapor has attributed recent power outages in the Ashanti Region to some faulty underground cables detected in December 2024.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, March 13, 2025, he stated that faulty cables made power supply from the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at the Ridge Bulk Supply Point (BSP) substation in Kumasi

challenging, leading to the outages.

According to him, there were no alternative routes available to facilitate power evacuation and supply.

“When that major fault occurred, the system had not been configured to have an alternative route to allow power to be evacuated.

“So, from December through to January, there were several major challenges and outages in respect of supplying reliable power within that enclave,” he said.
