Benab FC have emerged champions of zone seven (7) of the ongoing Ashanti Regional Division 2 league following their pulsating 2-2 stalemate against second-place Jonnboe SC last Saturday at the Sofoline Alignment Astro Turf.
The first half was a tightly contested affair, with both teams creating chances but neither were able to find the breakthrough. Aziz Dembele had the first opportunity of the game, but his effort sailed wide, while Maxwell also came close for Benab FC.
The visitors thought they had taken the lead just before the break, but the referee disallowed the goal for offside.
The second half was a different story, with Benab FC taking the lead through substitute Prince.
However, Jonnboe SC responded instantly, scoring from the penalty spot to level the score.
The ‘Everything by God’ lads restored their lead through substitute Imam, who combined with Maxwell to make it 2-1.
But Jonnboe FC refused to give up, and they equalized with five minutes to go after a lose mark in the penalty box.
Despite Benab FC’s best efforts, they couldn’t find a winner, and the match ended 2-2.
The draw may have brought an end to Benab FC’s 10-game winning run, but it was enough to secure the Zone 7 title with two games to spare.
