NDC Questions EC’s Decision To Award Contract Of Printing Ballot To YASARKO Company

According to a report by Adomonline, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised serious concerns regarding the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to award a ballot printing contract to the company YASARKO.

The NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, expressed frustration in a recent Facebook post, alleging that YASARKO has failed to meet its commitments.

He explained that the NDC has deployed an extensive “Eagle Eyes” initiative specifically designed to monitor the ballot printing process and safeguard electoral materials.

However, the NDC’s efforts to maintain this oversight have faced continuous challenges due to the actions, or lack thereof, by YASARKO.

In his post, Dr. Boamah expressed concern over YASARKO’s repeated delays, which he described as “excuses” that question the company’s capability.

“What due diligence did the Electoral Commission conduct before appointing YASARKO to print?”

Boamah questioned, raising concerns over whether the EC fully vetted YASARKO’s capacity and commitment to handle the high-stakes task.

“If any company (and the Electoral Commission) believes they won the printing contract not based on current capacity and competence, the culprits must be joking!” he warned.

The NDC’s Eagle Eyes team consists of a vigilant group of agents and supervisors stationed at YASARKO’s facilities to oversee each step of the ballot printing.

The team is working in shifts around the clock to ensure transparency and accountability in the printing process.

Among the notable figures in the Eagle Eyes initiative are Supervisors Richard Jakpa, a former Army Officer known for his past high-profile whistleblowing, Lawyer Natongmah, Atamudzi, Malik, and other “gallant colleagues,” as mentioned by Dr. Boamah.

“Our #EAGLEEYES team does not sleep!” Boamah emphasized. “Our Agents and Supervisors… are doing the Lord’s work.”

Another area of concern highlighted by the NDC is the alleged overproduction of ballots, which the Eagle Eyes team reportedly observed.

Dr. Boamah disclosed that YASARKO had printed ballots in excess of what was authorized, a deviation the NDC has taken steps to control.

The Eagle Eyes team has reportedly brokered an agreement with YASARKO and other firms involved in printing to ensure any surplus ballots are tracked, properly recorded, and disposed of under strict oversight.

Dr. Boamah’s detailed account pointed to potential security lapses, with implications for voter confidence.

He described the NDC’s efforts to curb these lapses, emphasizing, “Companies printing excessive ballot papers (overs), over and above the allowable excess have been made to reduce their ‘overs.’”
