The Premier League trophy has arrived in Ghana for a three-day tour in the capital, Accra.

The trophy’s arrival is part of an initiative by Guinness, the official beverage sponsor of the Premier League, to bring the prestigious silverware closer to fans in Ghana.

The title, currently held by Manchester City, was unveiled at the Marriott Hotel in Accra under tight security.

Former Black Stars players John Paintsil and John Mensah, both of whom played in the English top flight, were special guests at the unveiling.

Paintsil, who represented West Ham United, Fulham, and Leicester City, expressed his excitement, admitting that this was the closest he had ever been to the trophy despite playing in England.

“I am very happy to finally witness this moment. Even when I played in England, I never got close to it, and now it is in Ghana. Fortunately, I played for Fulham, West Ham, and Leicester, and I was a bit close when Fulham finished in the top eight,” he said.

“I am happy the trophy is here in the motherland. Our people, who love the English Premier League, will get to watch two games and have the opportunity to take pictures with it,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mensah, who played for Sunderland, described the experience as special.

“It is really great. I am very happy to see this trophy. In fact, I could have won one, but as I mentioned earlier, I was on loan at Sunderland. I fought hard to help the club, hoping we could be the first to win the Premier League,” he said.

“Playing in the Premier League was fantastic. I really enjoyed my time in England.”

The trophy will be in Ghana from Friday, March 14, to Sunday, March 16.

On Sunday, it will make a stop at PitStop in Labone, where fans can enjoy a special viewing experience during two Premier League matches.
