A local sports commentator, Khuliso “Joy n G Matter” Tshishonga of Gogobole, has embarked on a campaign to identify and promote new sportscasters.

Tshishonga is best known as an amateur sports commentator, covering different soccer tournaments and league matches around the region. He offers his services for free because, for him, sport is a passion. He has been commentating on sporting events since he was 12 years old. He uses his Facebook page to keep his fans updated on the latest sporting news.

“What I like about being a sports commentator is that it is friendly, and I interact with different officials and soccer players. One thing I’ve learned as a sports commentator is that you must always be prepared to learn a thing or two in your interaction with the public,” he said.

Tshishonga believes that a commentator must have an intimate knowledge of the rules and strategies of every sporting code. He was inspired by the radio commentary of Phalaphala FM’s Sydney Mashige, Baba Nthethwa, and Reggie Ndlovu from Supersport.

“The world of commentators is evolving on a daily basis, and I have to learn new things that come in every now and then. As a sports commentator, it is also very important to listen to the radio, read newspapers and magazines, and watch television to get updates on sports news around the globe,” he said.

Tshishonga would not mind pursuing a full-time career in sports broadcasting. For now, he is encouraging others to learn the trade and inform sports enthusiasts.
