The Minority in Parliament has voiced their disappointment with the 2025 budget, criticizing the lack of concrete plans for the much-touted 24-hour economy policy.
According to MyNewsGH, They described the budget as a major letdown, saying it failed to outline any clear framework for the initiative, which had been a key campaign promise of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the Minority, despite the fanfare around the 24-hour economy, there was no mention of specific programs or budgetary allocations for its implementation.
“There is no programme in the budget on that. In fact, the minister said he will soon launch the policy. There is no money voted for it in the budget,” a member of the Minority stated.
They added that Ghanaians might have to wait until 2026 to see any real action on the initiative.
The group also questioned the government’s expenditure priorities, particularly their decision to uncap transfers to statutory funds like the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to support the Free Senior High School (SHS) program.
They argued that this approach was neither innovative nor new, pointing out that similar methods had been used in the past.
Additionally, the Minority raised concerns over the allocation of the Annual Budget Funding Amount (ABFA) to capital projects under the “Big Push” agenda, suggesting that such decisions require legal backing through amendments to existing laws.
