Listowel Nana Kusi Poku, the Executive Director of the Good Governance Advocacy Group, has voiced strong concerns about former President John Mahama’s recent appointments, accusing him of trying to destabilise Ghana. His remarks came during an impassioned interview on live television, as reported by Mynewsgh.
Kusi Poku specifically criticised the appointment of retired military officer Larry Gbevlo Lartey as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), claiming it was part of a larger strategy to create instability in the country. He further accused Dr. Larry Gbevlo Lartey of being involved in the illegal supply of firearms to conflict-prone areas such as Bawku.
He also cast doubt on Gbevlo Lartey’s academic credentials, questioning the legitimacy of his doctorate. “Where did he even get his PhD? This is someone who has been called a security expert, yet I have military experience, and I’m not referred to as such,” Kusi Poku remarked.
His statements have sparked widespread public debate, with some supporting his concerns while others criticise his remarks as politically motivated. Kusi Poku maintains that Mahama’s appointments could endanger national stability, urging the new administration to reconsider its decisions.
In response, Mahama’s team has not officially addressed the accusations but has reaffirmed its commitment to making appointments that serve Ghana’s best interests. The debate surrounding these appointments continues to intensify, drawing mixed reactions from political analysts and the public alike.
