The recently concluded general elections saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerge victorious in both the presidential and parliamentary races, securing a majority of seats in Parliament. This outcome pushes the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into opposition, giving them four years to regroup and strategise for the next elections. Discussions have already begun regarding who should lead the NPP in the next election, with several names being considered alongside Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to a report by GHOne TV, Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, has sparked political debate by asserting that Kennedy Agyapong is the only political figure capable of posing a serious challenge to both the NPP and former President John Dramani Mahama. Dankwah believes Agyapong’s unique political style and appeal set him apart in Ghana’s political landscape.
In a recent interview, Dankwah highlighted Agyapong’s outspoken nature, charisma, and perceived independence from the political establishment as factors that make him a strong contender. He argued that Agyapong connects with ordinary Ghanaians who feel disconnected from mainstream politicians. “Kennedy Agyapong is the only one who can challenge both the NPP and Mahama. His directness and authenticity make him stand out, and many see him as a fresh alternative,” Dankwah remarked.
This statement comes in the wake of the NPP’s electoral defeat in 2024, prompting calls for new leadership within the party. Dankwah’s analysis suggests that Agyapong’s emergence could reshape Ghana’s political dynamics. His supporters share similar sentiments, urging him to step up as a unifying figure within the NPP while also appealing to undecided voters. However, critics argue that his confrontational style and controversial remarks might alienate certain segments of the electorate.
