Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has shared on his X account the discussions of the virtual meeting he had with all 71 Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consul-Generals.

During the discussion, Ablakwa commended Ghana’s envoys for their dedication and service, emphasizing the need for efficiency, responsiveness, and a greater focus on meeting the needs of Ghanaians in the diaspora. He highlighted key institutional reforms, including the establishment of a delivery unit aimed at tracking and improving the performance of Ghana’s diplomatic missions. The introduction of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for envoys was also a major point of discussion, ensuring that ambassadors and high commissioners are held accountable for their roles.

The meeting also delved into strategies for better serving Ghanaians living abroad, with Ablakwa urging all Ambassadors, High Commissioners, and Consul-Generals to be more responsive to their compatriots. He stressed the need for Ghanaians overseas to feel genuinely cared for by their diplomatic missions. Passport reforms and the conditions and welfare of staff in diplomatic missions were also on the agenda, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing the needs of both diplomats and citizens abroad.

The minister also urged envoys to be more proactive in engaging with the Ghanaian community in their respective countries. He stressed that Ghanaians living abroad should feel valued and supported by their government, adding that diplomatic missions must not be seen as distant bureaucracies but rather as direct representatives of the country’s leadership and policies.

Ablakwa concluded by reiterating the government’s determination to fulfill Mahama’s reset agenda, ensuring that Ghana’s foreign service reflects efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness. He assured that his ministry will continue to implement reforms that align with this vision, promising that the government will not fail Ghanaians at home or abroad.
