Popular journalist and host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere, has made serious allegations against former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. According to him, Dampare allegedly paid thousands of dollars to two top officials at Jubilee House in a last-minute effort to keep his job.
Speaking on his show on March 13, 2025, Adom-Otchere claimed that a man named Listowell confronted these officials over the alleged bribe. He reportedly asked them why they took the money when they knew that Dampare would still be dismissed.
Paul Adom-Otchere did not mention the names of the officials but insisted that they received the money just 72 hours before the former IGP’s removal. He also questioned the source of the funds, saying, “Where is Dr. Dampare getting the money from?”
Meanwhile, on the same day, President John Dramani Mahama officially relieved Dr. Dampare of his duties as IGP. In his place, the President appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new IGP.
According to a statement from the Minister of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the appointment was made in consultation with the Council of State and in line with the 1992 Constitution.
COP Yohuno has forty years of experience in the police service and is expected to lead reforms to modernize and improve security in the country.
These new developments have sparked debates across the country, with many waiting to see if Adom-Otchere will provide further details or evidence to support his allegations.
