You Can’t Tell Me How to Run My Show – Samson Lardy Tells Allotey Jacobs

Veteran journalist and host of NewsFile, Samson Lardy Anyenini, has responded to criticisms from social commentator Allotey Jacobs regarding the performance of his show.

In a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Samson addressed key concerns raised by Allotey Jacobs and defended the credibility and influence of NewsFile in Ghana’s media space.

Samson began his response by emphasizing the importance of patience, wisdom, and restraint in public discourse. He referenced biblical teachings, specifically from James 1:19 and Proverbs 19:11, to highlight the need for careful listening and measured speech. He also noted that his role as a journalist requires him to handle sensitive information responsibly, even when provoked.

He revealed that hosting NewsFile is a challenging task, as it involves moderating discussions with experts on complex issues. He admitted that, despite his extensive experience in law and journalism, he does not claim to know everything. However, he ensures that discussions on his show remain factual, balanced, and professional.

Addressing Allotey Jacobs’ criticism, Samson stated that a post shared by Jacobs, along with its accompanying insults, misrepresented the viewership status of NewsFile. He explained that, despite the rise of many competing shows, NewsFile has maintained its dominance on radio, television, and online platforms. He pointed out that the screenshot Jacobs shared did not reflect the true viewership figures, as NewsFile continues to trend on social media and command high numbers on YouTube.

Samson also reflected on his career journey, recalling how he started in the media industry in 2003 and later joined NewsFile in 2008. He took over as the substantive host after the 2012 elections and has since dedicated himself to maintaining the program’s high standards. Despite receiving offers to host other major shows, he remains committed to NewsFile, describing his work as a form of ministry rather than just a profession.

Furthermore, Samson addressed the growing trend of misinformation and insults in Ghana’s media landscape. He criticized individuals like Kevin Taylor and Abronye DC, whom he accused of spreading falsehoods to mislead the public. According to him, such behavior damages journalism and weakens public trust in the media. He urged ethical journalists and well-meaning Ghanaians to take a stand against the increasing impunity on social media.
