Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene recently opened up about the lasting impact of his collaboration with Sarkodie on the 2020 song “Happy Day.”
In an interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Eugene shared that the track, which many interpreted as a political endorsement of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), continues to negatively affect his career.
Eugene explained that he was unaware of the political implications when he was asked to feature on the song, as reported by Pulse Ghana.
He mentioned that the original concept from Sarkodie’s team was different, but after recording the chorus, the song shifted in a way that many listeners saw as supporting President Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP.
“I am still suffering from it,” he admitted, expressing his frustration with the ongoing backlash and criticism he receives.
Despite making efforts to clarify his intentions, Eugene often finds himself defending his position, emphasizing that he does not wish to align with any political party.
The controversy surrounding “Happy Day” remains a hot topic, highlighting the challenges artists face when their work becomes intertwined with political messages.
Eugene’s experience serves as a reminder of the difficulties musicians may face in a politically charged climate and underscores the need for clear communication in artistic collaborations.
