In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the landscape of entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency among Ghanaian youth, the GNPC Foundation has officially launched phase II of its nationwide skills training program. The ambitious project seeks to equip thousands of young artisans across the country with essential skills and resources, fostering economic independence in the informal sector.

Moses Antwi Benefo, Head of Media at the GNPC Foundation, spoke during a standard text for 56 skilled artisans at the Oforikrom municipal assembly to kick off the Ashanti Regional part of phase II. He mentioned that the foundation has already started examinations for 315 artisans in the Ashanti region, following the successful graduation of 389 trainees last year.

“Today, 56 artisans in Oforikrom are participating in N.V.T.I standard examinations, followed by another 50 in Bantama. Over the next few days, an additional 111 artisans will be evaluated, with those who pass receiving critical startup tools to help them launch their entrepreneurial ventures,” he revealed.

This nationwide initiative aims to train a total of 2,125 artisans across 12 regions, including Volta, Oti, Savanna, and Northern regions. The GNPC Foundation is committed not only to skills training but also to providing scholarships for tertiary education and investing in vital infrastructure, demonstrating its dedication to empowering the informal sector, a crucial pillar of Ghana’s economy.

He emphasized the transformative impact of the program, stating, “Many trained artisans are now earning a living from their newly acquired skills, significantly contributing to their communities.” He urged young people to apply for the program, highlighting its potential to uplift entire communities through skill acquisition and entrepreneurship.

The GNPC Foundation is partnering with organizations such as Aseda Foundation to maximize the program’s reach and effectiveness. He reinforced the initiative’s broader implications for community development and gender equality, proclaiming, “If you educate a woman, you educate a nation.”

The initiative is poised to create a ripple effect throughout Ghana, empowering individuals to break free from poverty and driving economic growth across the nation. “As the GNPC Foundation continues to champion skills training and entrepreneurship, it paves the way for a brighter future for Ghanaian youth and the economy as a whole,” he underscored.

Meanwhile, the program has been designed to benefit almost all disciplines, including carpentry, masonry, tailoring/dressmaking, makeup, hairdressing, and catering, among others.

Some beneficiaries who spoke to the media thanked the GNPC Foundation for such an initiative. According to most of them, the program has elevated their standards both financially and in terms of skills.

They pledged to make effective use of the startup kits promised to them by the foundation once they successfully navigate through the assessment process.
