As Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s concerns were dismissed by Speaker Alban Bagbin, tensions rose in Ghana’s Parliament, paving the way for the budget presentation. The Effutu MP shook his head in disapproval, demonstrating the deep divisions surrounding the fiscal proposals. He was clearly annoyed. Afenyo-Markin challenged procedural issues, arguing that crucial concerns needed to be addressed before proceeding. This sparked the conflict.
He demanded more thought and insisted that the government’s approach to the budget lacked proper scrutiny. However, steadfast Bagbin ruled against him, stating that the procedure must proceed. Despite the Speaker’s decision, the opposition vowed to dissect every detail of the budget. Later, a number of Minority MPs voiced their dismay, claiming that due process was being ignored.
