School girls to receive free sanitary pads from government
The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced the government’s decision to provide free sanitary pads for school girls.
According to the minister, this is in fulfillment of the government’s promise to provide social interventions for Ghanaians.
He made this known when he presented the 2025 budget in Parliament on March 11, 2025.
He said: “strengthen social protection through the implementation of new social intervention programmes include the No-Academic-Fee policy for all first-year students in public tertiary institutions under the ‘No-Fees-Stress’ initiative, the Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disability (PWDs), Free Primary Healthcare, the Ghana Medical Care Trust(MahamaCares), and the Free Sanitary Pads for schoolgirls.”
Ato Forson also announced that the government has allocated GH¢292.4 million to commence the distribution of free sanitary pads to female students in primary and secondary schools.
Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson presented the first Budget and Economic Policy of the John Dramani Mahama administration in Parliament on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
This is in accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 21 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
