Asante Kotoko coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has opened up about the support he gave his players after the demise of Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley, a staunch Asante Kotoko fan.

Following the incident, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) called for a brief halt of the Ghana Premier League (GPL) as they put measures in place to ensure such incidents do not happen again.

The league finally resumed on Friday, March 7, 2025, and on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Asante Kotoko faced Legon Cities at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. Goals from Patrick Asiedu and Kwame Opoku propelled the Porcupine Warriors to a 2-0 win on the day.

With the relationship Pooley had with the team, many had anticipated an emotional breakdown of the players. However, talking to the media after the win, Ogum disclosed how he psyched his players before the game, revealing his idea to limit the team from watching videos of the deceased.

“I made them reduce watching the videos of Pooley because, according to studies, the more you watch certain events, the more attached you become to the event that you watch. So the more you are attached to somebody, and you cannot see the person again, to reduce the pain, one of the key ways to overcome it is to distance yourself from videos and publications about that person,” he said.

The devoted Asante Kotoko supporter was tragically stabbed during a match against Nsoatreman on Sunday, February 2, 2025. What began as an on-field altercation between players quickly escalated into the stands, culminating in the fatal incident.

The win means Asante Kotoko maintains their spot at the top of the standings with 37 points after 20 games.
