is there more to the story?

A surprising call has been made by renowned football administrator Abdul Salam Yakubu, urging the handlers of the Black Stars to recall Andre Ayew ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. But what’s behind this sudden push for Ayew’s return, and what does it mean for the team’s chances in the qualifiers?

Ayew, who has been absent from the Black Stars since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), has been in impressive form for Le Havre in the French Ligue 1 this season. The 34-year-old has netted four goals in 17 appearances, proving his continued relevance at the top level.

Abdul Salam Yakubu, owner of New Edubiase United, believes Ayew’s experience and leadership would be invaluable to the squad. I believe Andre Ayew must be given a chance at the Black Stars again, he told Asempa FM’s Sports World program. We all know Ayew’s commitment to the Black Stars, and we know if he doesn’t score, he will assist, so I believe Andre Ayew must be given the chance again because we need him.

Currently second in Group I with nine points, the Black Stars will take on Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, at 19:00 GMT. They will then travel to Morocco to face Madagascar at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima on Monday, March 24. With Ayew’s potential recall, the team’s chances in the qualifiers just got a whole lot more interesting.

As the Black Stars prepare to regroup later this month, one question remains: what’s the real reason behind Ayew’s recall? Is it purely based on his impressive form, or is there more to the story? Only time will tell.
