Deputy Speaker of Parliament Issues Notice to Send This Message to President Mahama Without Delay

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, delivered an important message to President John Dramani Mahama regarding recent political developments in Ghana. In a Facebook post, Ahiafor thanked the President for acknowledging Parliament’s efforts in swiftly executing their duties to help form his cabinet. He emphasized that this was the fastest cabinet approval process in the history of the Fourth Republic.
Ahiafor also reflected on the events of February, which included the vetting of ministerial nominees, official travels, and the State of the Nation Address (SONA) delivered by President Mahama. He described February as an emotional month, during which the true state of the nation was revealed. He expressed optimism that the government’s plans would lead to positive reforms, resetting the economy and building the Ghana that citizens aspire to.
Looking ahead, the Deputy Speaker urged Ghanaians to embrace a spirit of renewal and patriotism. He called for unity and collective action toward national progress.
Ahiafor’s statement underscores the government’s focus on economic recovery and national unity, as well as the essential role Parliament plays in supporting the administration’s initiatives.
Although Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament for Akatsi South and Chairman of the Appointments Committee, has faced criticism for his leadership during the vetting process—accusations of being too protective, partisan, and weak—he has continued to serve effectively. He was elected First Deputy Speaker of the Ninth Parliament and remains committed to strengthening parliamentary processes and upholding democratic principles.
