Kotoko thrash Legon Cities as Chelsea cruise past Accra Lions

Matchday 23 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League has concluded across various venues, delivering thrilling encounters. One game remains, set to be played on Monday.

This matchweek marked the league’s return after a five-week hiatus following the tragic death of Asante Kotoko’s Francis Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley, who was fatally stabbed at Nana Kronmansah Park during a clash against Nsoatreman FC.

At the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Sunday, Hearts of Oak secured a 2-0 victory over Young Apostles. Michael Mensah Awuah opened the scoring just before halftime, while Hamzah Issah doubled the lead three minutes into the second half to seal the win.

At the Baba Yara Stadium, Asante Kotoko continued their strong form with a 2-0 win over struggling Legon Cities. Patrick Asiedu put the hosts ahead in the 28th minute, and Kwame Opoku converted a penalty in the 89th minute to wrap up the victory.

Karela United and Basake Holy Stars played out a 1-1 draw at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. Alhassan Adamu gave Karela the lead in the 20th minute, but Bismark Teye equalized for Holy Stars in the 73rd minute.

Medeama SC staged a comeback to defeat Bechem United 3-1 at the TNA Park. Darlvin Yeboah put Bechem ahead in the 6th minute, but Osah Bernardinho Tetteh equalized 10 minutes later. Medeama then took control in the second half, with Michael Sarpong scoring in the 68th minute before Kelvin Nkrumah sealed the win in stoppage time.

At DUN’s Park, Bibiani GoldStars edged Nations FC 1-0 thanks to Michael Nkoah’s 70th-minute strike.

Elsewhere, Vision FC and Heart of Lions played to a 1-1 draw at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex. Kwesi Pong put Heart of Lions ahead in the 14th minute, but George Tei Nagadzi equalized for the hosts in the 31st minute.

Berekum Chelsea stunned Accra Lions 3-1 at Nana Agyemang Badu Park, with Stephen Amankona stealing the show by scoring a hat trick in the 44th, 52nd, and 72nd minutes. David Olubi Akintunde netted a late consolation for Accra Lions in the 84th minute.

Dreams FC and Aduana FC played out a goalless draw at the Tuba Astro Turf.

On Monday, Nsoatreman FC will host defending champions FC Samartex at DUN’s Park, with kickoff scheduled for 15:00 GMT.
