Popular writer affiliated with the opposition New Patriotic Party P.K Sarpong has expressed concern about how Sam George was able to raise revenue to sponsor his wife’s event barely five weeks after his appointment.
His criticism comes after Sam Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations addressed the concerns about a recent event held by his foundation.
An event by the Dzata Foundation led by Vera George, spouse of Ghana’s Minster for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has subjected the politician to significant backlash online.
The event which had MTN as a partner stoked several criticisms about conflict of interest.
The new minister has dismissed the claims tagging them as “most unfortunate and reprehensible. He took to social media platforms to admit that the event was fully funded by him.
Reacting to the development, P.K Sarpong questioned where Sam George got the funds from to sponsor such an event most especially when he admitted during his vetting that his wife takes care of him.
When asked by the Ranking Member of the Appointments Committee and Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, whether he had any sources of income aside from his parliamentary salary, Sam George responded with a candid and lighthearted statement.
On the heels of Sam George’s pronouncement about his sources of income during his vetting, P.K Sarpong is concerned about how he could raise revenue to sponsor his wife’s event.
In a Facebook post, he wrote, “In less than 5 weeks of appointment, Sam George has so much to sponsor his wife’s event when before appointment his wife was taking care of him. The 7th Wonder of the world is more like it.”
