Liverpool sealed their third successive win in the Premier League, beating Southampton 3-1 at Anfield. Before that however, the hosts had a scare with Kyle Walker-Peters scoring the opening goal on the brink of half-time.
Darwin Nunez, who was fortunate to remain on the pitch following a reckless challenge, soon made his mark elsewhere. He went on to redeem himself by scoring the equaliser in the 51st minute and also won a penalty for his team, minutes later.
Mohamed Salah made no mistake from the penalty spot, moving third place of all-time Liverpool top-scorers – surpassing Gordon Hodgson. The Egyptian also added to his tally by converting a second goal – also from the spot and now has 243 goals in a Reds shirt since arriving at Anfield in 2017.
As it stands, the Reds are 16 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the table. The Gunners will be in action on Sunday afternoon, facing Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Here, the ECHO has taken a look at the latest headlines from in and around Anfield.
Swap deal on the cards?
Defensa Central (via TEAMtalk), report Liverpool’s interest in Real Madrid star Rodrygo. It’s said that if the club are unable to convince Ibrahima Konate to sign a new contract extension, the Reds will propose a swap deal involving Rodrigo.
The Spanish giants, who are looking to sign a new centre-back in the summer, have Konate and Arsenal’s William Saliba on their radar. Konate is out of contract on Merseyside in 2026.
However, trying to prise the Brazilian away from Santiago Bernabeu will not be easy as Real Madrid reputedly have no ‘intention’ of parting company with their goalscorer.
Liverpool move for left-back ‘progressing well’
Dominik Szoboszlai is reportedly playing a key role in the Reds’ pursuit for Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. That’s according to Football Insider, who detail that the pair’s relationship could prove to be key to land the 21-year-old.
Sporting director Richard Hughes is said to be behind the deal and the move is described as ‘progressing well’ as Szoboszlai plays a role behind the scenes.
The defender’s form has seen his price tag reportedly rise to around £40million. Last week, Fabrizio Romano claimed this season will be Kerkez’s last at the Vitality Stadium as the player is “expected” to move away from the south coast to “try a new chapter”
