Professor Stephen Adei while speaking during a recent interview revealed that, he was chairman of the NDPC for over 2 years and the council could not have a dialogue with the president.
“In his Words”
“You see, when I joined the UN, I was with the UN for 11 and a half years, and as an economic adviser, the first thing they did was touring all the Asian developing countries, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, and all of them you know to see, and one of the things that nearly struck me was that each one of them had what they called economic advisory bureau or national economic bureau, and they
were highly respected, they were well equipped with intellectuals. Infact in South Korea, we went to Bank and IMF offices, and every one of you there are paid the same because of how they value the intellectual capital, and the Korean Development Institute was such a brain behind the Korea”.
“And interestingly all the countries we visited in Asia had them. In Ghana sadly, we have made politics an end in itself. Now let me tell you something, our government are not interested in the National Development Planning Commission. They don’t fund them,
they don’t equip them with the technical personnel which is needed, and most of the time, they will not listen. I was chairman of NDPC for 2 and a half years, the council itself couldn’t have a dialogue once with the President”, Stephen Adei said.
