Instead of addressing the issue, he chose to launch a personal attack on my character—Sandra Esinam

Ghanaian media personality Sandra Esinam has publicly criticized Onua TV’s Captain Smart for his unprofessional conduct and personal attacks against her. In an open letter shared on Facebook, Esinam expressed her deep disappointment with the journalist’s behavior, calling for media institutions to address the growing trend of unprofessionalism in the media space.

Sandra Esinam’s concerns initially arose from Captain Smart’s conduct on Onua TV, a subsidiary of Media General, which she found to be unprofessional. However, instead of engaging in a productive discourse, Esinam alleges that Captain Smart resorted to personal insults, including accusations of promiscuity, which she deemed not only baseless but also deeply hurtful.

“Instead of addressing the issue at hand, he chose to launch a personal attack on my character. In my initial statement, I expressed perplexity at how an institution I have worked with and respected for its values could condone such behavior,” Esinam stated in her post. “It appears my concerns were justified, as Captain Smart has continued to stoop to unprofessional levels, making baseless accusations and insults, including claims of promiscuity.”

The media personality further condemned the accusations, calling them “nauseating” and rooted in outdated and cowardly behavior. According to Esinam, when some men are confronted with women who display intelligence and confidence, they often resort to belittling tactics, such as labeling them promiscuous. She described this approach as “appalling, backward, and primitive.”

Esinam also expressed her concern that such actions are undermining the integrity of journalism and discrediting the profession as a whole. She called on media regulatory bodies like the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Media Commission to take a more active role in addressing unprofessionalism in the media landscape.

“As journalists, our role is to educate, inform, and hold individuals and institutions accountable, not to engage in personal vendettas or warfare. It is unfortunate that Captain Smart’s actions are bringing our noble profession into disrepute,” Esinam wrote.

She concluded her message by urging institutions like the GJA and the Media Commission to take decisive action to promote responsible journalism that prioritizes the public interest over personal agendas.
