Renowned policy analyst and President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has expressed concerns over a misleading headline published by Peace FM, which claimed that former President John Dramani Mahama had called for a coup to overthrow the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.
The Peace FM headline read, “There Should Have Been A ‘Coup D’état’ By Now To Overthrow NPP—Mahama Shockingly Says.”
In response, Franklin Cudjoe tweeted,
“Peace FM online news editors, I respect you a lot. Respectfully, edit the headline. John Dramani Mahama never said the military should overthrow the NPP.”
Cudjoe clarified that Mahama’s statement was taken out of context. The former president had suggested that if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were in power with the current levels of corruption, there might have been a coup by now, highlighting the intense scrutiny his party would have faced under similar circumstances.
While maintaining his respect for Peace FM, Cudjoe called for more responsible reporting, especially when dealing with sensitive political statements, to prevent the spread of misinformation that could escalate tensions in the country.
