“Tired of the Lover Girl Roles” – Nadia Buari Opens Up About Her Shift to Movie Production

Ghanaian actress Nadia Buari has revealed the motivation behind her decision to transition from acting to movie production.

In a candid interview on The Afternoon Show on Wednesday, October 23, the popular actress shared that the shift was driven by a desire to break free from the repetitive roles she had been receiving.

Buari, who is best known for her iconic performances in romantic dramas, explained that she grew weary of the “lover girl” characters that consistently came her way. According to her, this shift into production was to challenge herself and explore other characters she had always longed to portray.

“I got into movie production because I felt I wasn’t challenged enough,” she said. “I felt the scripts that I was receiving and the roles that I played were not challenging enough.”

As a self-proclaimed fan of thrillers and horror genres, Buari admitted that her passion for these kinds of stories wasn’t reflected in the roles she was being offered. She often found herself cast in predictable narratives where she was either in love or competing for someone else’s affection.

“I am a thriller and horror freak, and every time I got a script, it was either a lover girl or I was after somebody’s boyfriend, and I just got tired of that,” she explained. “I had too many stories, and I felt like if I ventured into producing my own movies, I could play the character I have always wanted to play.”

Her journey into film production has already yielded four films, with more projects in the pipeline. After taking a break from acting, Buari is set to return to the big screen with her latest movie, Forever in a Night, which is scheduled to premiere on November 9, 2024, at both the Accra Mall and West Hills Mall.

The film, produced by John N. Okwugo and directed by Jameel Buari, features an ensemble cast that includes Godwin Namboh, Samera Buari, Queenstar Anaafi, and Fred Sarpong. Forever in a Night follows the life of a woman who seemingly has everything but faces a devastating turn of events in a single night.

Buari’s foray into producing is a significant step in her career as she continues to push boundaries and redefine her role in the Ghanaian movie industry. With her upcoming film, she’s poised to captivate audiences once again—this time not only as an actress but as a storyteller with a vision.
