Ghana Athletics President, Bawah Fuseini, has announced plans to organize a National Inter-Schools Championship, following the success of the recent Regional Super Zonals held in the Central and Ashanti Regions. The initiative aims to provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents and compete at a higher level.

According to My Joy Online, The Regional Super Zonals, held in Cape Coast and Kumasi, saw standout performances from schools like Mfantsipim School and Prempeh College. Among the rising stars was Joseph Andoh Kwofie of Mfantsipim, who has been tipped as a future prospect for Ghana athletics. The event’s success has sparked calls for more national-level competitions to nurture young talent.

In an interview with JoySports, Fuseini revealed that discussions are underway with key stakeholders, including the Ghana Education Service (GES), to make the National Inter-Schools Championship a reality. “Just imagine the excitement from the Ashanti Region and Cape Coast—if we bring all these athletes together for a National Inter-Schools Championship, the atmosphere will be incredible,” he said.

Fuseini emphasized the importance of creating a pathway for young athletes to compete not only nationally but also at the African level. “I have met with the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, and we are working towards organizing this event. The goal is to bring together the best-performing schools from the Super Zonals and create opportunities for them to excel,” he added.

The proposed championship is expected to be held in either Kumasi or Cape Coast, cities that have already demonstrated their passion for athletics through the Regional Super Zonals. The event will feature top schools from across the country, providing a platform for young athletes to gain exposure and experience.

Fuseini’s announcement has been met with enthusiasm from sports enthusiasts and educators alike. Many believe that such initiatives are crucial for identifying and developing the next generation of Ghanaian athletes. The National Inter-Schools Championship could also serve as a stepping stone for young talents to represent Ghana on the international stage.

As plans progress, stakeholders are optimistic about the potential impact of the championship on Ghana’s sports landscape. With the right support and infrastructure, the event could become a cornerstone of athletic development in the country.
