The debate over financial transparency in Ghanaian football has taken a new turn after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) responded to President John Mahama’s call for full disclosure of the Black Stars’ budget.

Speaking at the State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27, 2025, President Mahama called for all budgets for sporting events to be made public under his government.

This reignited discussions, with Communications Director of the GFA, Henry Asante Twum, and Executive Council member, Oduro Sarfo, all leaping to the defense of the GFA.

Their statement has sparked outrage among Ghanaians on social media, with many voicing their frustration with the GFA’s lack of transparency, especially regarding public funds and sponsorship deals.

Others believe Ghanaians have a right to know how money is spent on the Black Stars, as Mahama requested. While some criticized the GFA for being secretive, there is a general sense of distrust and dissatisfaction with the GFA’s handling of financial matters.
