The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has said that the Ministry of Sports and Recreation are responsible for making Black Stars budget available to the public.

He explained that even though the GFA are part of the discussions concerning the budget they are not entitled to make the budget public.

The GFA Communications Director also clarified that the government only caters for the financial issues regarding the Black Stars head coach Otto Addo with the rest of the bills footed by the football association.

“Making the Black Stars budgets public is not the responsibility of the GFA. It is the responsibility of the sports ministry. Apart from the head coach of the Black Stars, none of the other coaches of the national teams is renumerated by the state,” Asante Twum said during an interview with Sporty FM.

This was in response to President John Dramani Mahama’s directive that all budgets for sporting events, including that of the Black Stars, should be made public under his government.

During the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2025 in Parliament, President Mahama assured that no association would withhold their budgets, emphasizing that taxpayers have the right to know how funds are allocated.

“There will be no secrecy on how much the government spends on the national teams. The budgets presented by the GFA and other associations must be known by the public. After all, it’s the taxpayers’ funds that are used to fund these activities.

“The reduction in government expenditure applies to all sectors of the economy, including the ministry of sports and recreation,” the president stated
