The President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama, has stated that the recent arrests of individuals from the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration are just the beginning of broader accountability measures.

Mahama indicated that the arrests, carried out by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), are part of efforts to hold former government appointees accountable and recover looted state resources under his Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) anti-corruption initiative.

He revealed that the ORAL team’s report has been submitted to the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, for further action.

President Mahama assured that all acts of corruption detailed in the report would be thoroughly investigated, and those found culpable would be prosecuted.

“I also pledged to fight corruption head-on by implementing Operation Recover All Loot. In that regard, Mr. Speaker, one of the first committees I established, even before my investiture as President, was the ORAL Committee, formed alongside the transition committee.

“It is significant to announce that the committee received over 2,000 complaints and has since submitted a comprehensive report. The report has been handed over to the Attorney General for further review, thorough investigation, and eventual prosecution,” he said while delivering the State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Thursday, February 27, 2025.

He added, “The recent arrests related to the unwarranted payment of $2 million in the Sky Train saga and the National Service ghost names scandal mark only the beginning of a comprehensive response based on the ORAL Committee’s findings.”

The NIB recently arrested Kwaku Ohene Gyan, the former Deputy Director in Charge of Operations at the National Service Authority (NSS), over a payroll scandal involving 80,000 ghost names fraudulently added to the payroll.

Additionally, Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), was arrested over the $2 million payment to a South African company for the implementation of the Accra Sky Train project.

Both individuals were later released.
