President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated that job creation is a key pillar for the country.

During his first State of the Nation Address on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Mahama in his second term as president, emphasised that job creation is a fundamental principle of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and assured that this commitment will be actively pursued.

He highlighted the importance of creating sustainable employment opportunities to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life for all citizens.

He stated “Mr Speaker, job creation is one of our main pillars, and it was one of the major promises we made to the youth of Ghana. To help actualise this promise, we are going to roll out what we call the EJUMARURA program. This initiative will create, track, and mentor young businesses annually. It was a special focus of our youth.”

Mahama also outlined various initiatives and policies aimed at fostering entrepreneurship, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises, and attracting foreign investment to boost job creation across different sectors.

“For the first phase, the top 2,000 implementable business proposals will be supported with business development training, mentorship, access to startup capital, marketing, and networking to operationalise their innovations and business ideas. We’ll also launch our flagship National Apprenticeship Program to equip at least 10,000 young people in the informal sector with employable skills, including providing apprenticeship fees and startup kits when they have completed. The youth development and the interior ministries will facilitate the training of our young people in the Okada business,” he added.
