The Minority Caucus of Parliament applauded former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, during his introduction by Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, at the 2025 State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Kufuor was among the distinguished guests attending President John Dramani Mahama’s first SONA in his second term.

After securing victory in the December 7, 2024, elections, President Mahama addressed the nation on Thursday, February 27, 2025, outlining his vision, policies, and progress of things in the country.

Before his speech, Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, introduced and welcomed some of the distinguished guests in the Chamber.

Among them was former President John Agyekum Kufuor, whose introduction was welcomed with loud cheers from the Minority caucus.

The group affectionately chanted “Paapa Deenden,” possibly highlighting his reputation for toughness.

The Minority caucus then clapped and sang along his name in admiration.

Background:

President Mahama’s address, which is in line with the Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, and which is expected to outline his ambitious “Resetting Ghana” agenda, aims at tackling economic challenges, creating jobs, and restoring stability.

In his address, the president is expected to touch on key areas of his government’s policy objectives.

He is also expected to provide updates on the state of Ghana’s economy, including the ongoing IMF bailout program, security, and the cost of living, among other issues.

Additionally, he will update Ghanaians on deliverables for the year ahead, as well as the achievements of his government so far and the challenges that lie ahead.
