Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola and his wife Christina have commenced legal proceedings to officially divorce after 30 years of marriage.

According to Lorena Vazquez, a well-respected Spanish showbiz reporter, the couple are using the same lawyer to ensure that the issue is settled peacefully.

The journalist also indicated that, because of their children, both Guardiola and his wife are determined to resolve the case in the most amicable way possible.

“The divorce is being prepared conscientiously, and they have left it in the hands of people they really trust. What surprises me the most is that both of them have the same lawyer, who is arranging the whole thing.

“They want it to be amicable for the sake of their children. As you can imagine, money is not going to be an issue, and they are now agreeing on the initial terms to make sure this separation is as cordial as possible,” she said.

Lorena Vazquez noted that the reason Guardiola continues to wear his wedding ring is unknown, but it may signify that he is open to continuing the marriage if possible.

“It’s surprising he’s still wearing his wedding ring, and I wouldn’t be able to tell you if it’s a symbol he wants to carry on wearing as a homage to his marriage or as an open door to reconciliation, because what we’re being told is that he would perhaps be more open to that than his wife,'” she added.

Reports indicate that Guardiola’s decision to extend his contract with Manchester City contributed to the separation.

The Spanish coach met Cristina Serra in 1994, when he was 23 and she was 20. They married in 2014, but it is reported they have been together since 1994.

The couple have three children: Maria, 24; Marius, 22; and Valentina, 17.

Guardiola, who has had a difficult start to the 2024/2025 season, will likely focus on his managerial career and aim to revive Manchester City’s performance.
