“NPP Will Hold A Press Conference”—Man Reacts As Murtala Ibrahim Calls Akufo-Addo Short

In a recent interview, Murtala Ibrahim, the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, strongly condemned remarks made by Hassan Tampuli, CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), who compared fellow legislator Sam George to the infamous Ugandan dictator Idi Amin.

The controversy erupted after Tampuli, in a public speech, suggested that Sam George’s political approach was similar to that of Amin, a comparison that quickly sparked public outcry. Ibrahim, responding to the comments during a television interview, labeled Tampuli’s statement as “baseless” and an insult to George, describing it as an example of poor political conduct.

“It is utterly absurd to compare Sam George, a respected MP, to a dictator like Idi Amin. Such remarks reflect immaturity and a lack of respect in our political dialogue,” Ibrahim stated, emphasizing the need for a more dignified level of discourse.

Ibrahim also used the opportunity to criticize Tampuli personally, making a pointed comment about his height in a lighthearted reference to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. “How would you feel if we said you’re as short as Nana Addo, but that doesn’t mean we should belittle others,” he said, adding a touch of humor to his rebuke.

The exchange has ignited a wave of reactions, with some expressing support for Sam George while others take issue with the tone and delivery of the back-and-forth.

A Ghanaian while reacting, claimed the NPP was going to hold a press conference in response to the comment made by Murtala Ibrahim. A screenshot of reactions below.

Tampuli has not yet responded publicly to the criticism, and it remains unclear how this incident will impact the ongoing political dynamics in the country.
