A former Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Charles Aheto-Tsegah has called on parents to collaborate with school authorities to ensure students uphold high standards of discipline.

This comes after a violent clash between students of the school and residents of the community. According to reports, the unrest which began on Friday escalated through the weekend when some students entered the community without permission and engaged in confrontations with some town residents resulting in casualties.

Speaking to Starr News on the back of this, Aheto-Tsegah called on parents to collaborate with school authorities to ensure high standards of discipline are maintained.

“Parents should always be informed about any acts of indiscipline involving their children and must be patient in listening to the decisions the school intends to make. They should support the school’s actions for discipline to be effective.”

“Teachers, in turn, can guide children through the appropriate process, much like what lawyers recommend—listening to both sides to ensure a balanced approach to resolving issues. This helps parents understand and appreciate the level of discipline being applied.

We want to avoid situations where parents confront teachers just because their child has misbehaved, only to take the child home and later disagree with the school’s decisions.”

“It’s important for parents and schools to work together cooperatively to ensure that discipline is consistent, and our children are well-behaved.”
