Liverpool are expected to be busy during the summer as Arne Slot looks to build on the 2024/25 campaign.

The Dutch coach has exceeded all expectations since arriving at Anfield and currently has Liverpool in line for a treble after putting 11 points between the Reds and Arsenal at the weekend.

This came off the back of a very quiet summer where Liverpool only added Federico Chiesa to their squad, but the Premier League leaders are likely to make up for that ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

In hindsight, this has worked out as it has allowed Slot a full season to evaluate his squad and Liverpool now know exactly what signings need to be made.

The number six was an area of interest for Slot last summer and it looks like the Dutch coach could add to the position by bringing a Premier League star to Merseyside.

Carlos Baleba remains on Liverpool’s radar

Liverpool were interested in Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi last summer but the midfielder would turn down a move to the Reds.

The Premier League leaders would have been interested in the Spaniard again but Zubimendi will be joining Arsenal for the 2025/26 season after a deal was agreed in January.

Brighton star Carlos Baleba has been linked to Liverpool in recent days as the Reds continue to look for a new number six to provide support for Ryan Gravenberch.

Speaking to the Anfield Index, journalist David Lynch has admitted that Baleba is a player on Liverpool’s radar, however, the 21-year-old might cost the Reds a large chunk of money.

“I think Liverpool like him because I think they liked him when he was at Lille beforehand. It was just a case of Brighton willing to take the risk at that point of bringing him over and giving him games,” Lynch said.

“Liverpool want something that is a little bit closer to the finished product when they sign a player so I know he is someone that has been on the radar.

“The big problem there is how much Brighton are going to ask for, it’s possibly insane money. He is a very capable player and Liverpool are hardly short of money. I wouldn’t rule this one out at all, but I haven’t heard anything concrete around that.”

It will be interesting to see if Liverpool still pursue a top number six ahead of the new season as the emergence of Gravenberch has helped solve their issues in that area of the pitch.

Ryan Gravenberch has saved Liverpool millions

Gravenberch has surprised many Liverpool fans this season as the Dutch star has been one of the Reds’ best players after a very underwhelming first campaign at Anfield.

The 22-year-old has made the number six position his own and his emergence has saved the Merseyside club millions as the Premier League leaders don’t need to sign a proven star for the number six role anymore.

Baleba looks like a great player and given his age, the 21-year-old will very likely go on to achieve even bigger things.

However, Gravenberch looks like he could be Liverpool’s number six for years, therefore, it would be nonsensical for the Reds to spend big money on a player that will only be used for rotation purposes.
