A newly crowned queen mother of Nungua, Lawrencia Naa Borley Nelson, was shot during her installation, on Monday, February 24, 2025.
According to Accra-based Ablade TV Online, Naa Borley Nelson was appointed to be queen mother of GAMU Nungua West within the GaDangme Muslim community.
She was in line with other appointed traditional leaders awaiting their installation when she was shot.
A video of the incident shared by Ablade TV on Facebook showed the moment the queen mother was shot.
She was standing with a group of men who were supposedly the other appointed traditional leaders.
An initial gunshot was fired, which startled some of the people at the event, but there was no commotion.
Another gunshot was fired, which hit the queen mother, who could be seen falling after the impact of the shot.
The men standing with her were initially at a loss as to what was happening. After realising that she had been hit by a gunshot, they immediately began the search for the person who fired the shot.
Some of the men could be seen trying to help the queen mother.
Ablade TV indicated that the gunshot was from a musket which was fired unintentionally by a yet-to-be-identified attendee.
It added that the installation, per a flyer, was organised by the Greater Accra Council of GaDangme Muslim Chiefs, Queens, and Imams, under the auspices of the Nungua Traditional Council.
