Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin
The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has launched a scathing criticism against Oman FM, a radio station sympathetic to the cause of the party.
His criticism followed a discussion on the station regarding the embattled Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi, who has had a bench warrant issued for his arrest by the Koforidua High Court following his conviction for contempt of court.
The conviction stems from Kumi’s decision to present himself for swearing-in as an MP despite a court injunction prohibiting him from doing so.
The discussion on the station’s morning show criticized the handling of the issue by the party’s national leadership as well as the leadership of the parliamentary caucus.
However, the Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin, was not happy with how the issue was discussed publicly. He, therefore, phoned into the radio station to express his displeasure.
He acknowledged that, though the party may have issues, such public platforms are not the appropriate venue to discuss important party matters.
“Yes, I listened to Oman FM, and I asked myself and the driver, ‘Is this Oman FM we are listening to in the car?’ The party may have problems, I understand. Every party has its own issues that it resolves from time to time. The NDC has worse situations, but they will not go on Radio Gold, Montie FM, and others to attack their party leaders and party decisions or insinuate. They won’t do it. We can talk about our problems in-house,” he told the host, Yaw Amofa Boakye.
“Where we have gotten to as a party is very slippery. We should all manage our disappointment. So if our only mouthpiece—you are on radio… I have listened to all your discussions. I listen to you, and I am in pain that you are attacking your very own party over Ernest Yaw Kumi’s case,” he stated.
