Months after his departure from Real Madrid, Joselu spoke about his time spent playing at the Spanish capital as he reminisced about his magical experience with ‘Los Blancos’. The striker left Real Madrid a hero as he scored in his last-ever match for the club, the 2024 Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.
Speaking to ‘Jugones’, Joselu revealed he struggled in his first few weeks away from Real Madrid. “Saying goodbye to Real Madrid was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever had to do in my life. I couldn’t decide with my heart because I would’ve stayed there forever if I had,” he said, explaining that he had to make the decision to join Al Gharafa from Qatar for the good of his family.
“When I decided to leave, I couldn’t even talk about it with my wife. Lucas Vazquez called me, and so did Modric, but I couldn’t get myself to answer. Ancelotti wanted me to stay,” the Spaniard added, highlighting that increased game time wouldn’t have changed his mind either way.
Joselu then talked about his struggles in adapting to life in the Middle East. “During the first few months in Qatar, my head was still stuck in Madrid. After a draw in the opening game of the season, my name was trending on X, and people remembered me. I can die happy because I played and won with Real Madrid,” he concluded.
