Jail Her if You Are Man Enough to Fight Corruption- Ernest Owusu Bempah

Accra – Political activist Ernest Owusu Bempah has called on North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to take concrete action in the fight against corruption by focusing on high-profile cases. Bempah specifically urged Ablakwa to prioritize the case of Sedinam Tamakloe Attionu, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), who was recently convicted of embezzling state funds.

Bempah questioned Ablakwa’s commitment to fighting corruption, arguing that if he were truly dedicated to the cause, he would push for accountability in Sedinam’s case. “If you claim to be fighting corruption, here is a clear case of someone found guilty of looting state funds,” Bempah asserted.

He further criticized the government’s handling of corruption cases, accusing authorities of selective prosecution. According to Bempah, while minor infractions are pursued aggressively, larger scandals involving powerful figures are often overlooked, which, in his view, erodes public trust in anti-corruption efforts.

In addition to calling for action on the MASLOC case, Bempah reignited discussions on the Airbus corruption scandal. The controversy, which involved bribery allegations in the procurement of aircraft parts during former President John Atta Mills’ administration, has long been a subject of political debate. Bempah pointed out that even Atta Mills had initiated an inquiry into the matter due to serious concerns over corruption. He insisted that a renewed investigation was necessary to ensure accountability and restore public confidence in the nation’s institutions.

Bempah’s statements come at a time when corruption remains a pressing issue in Ghanaian politics. His call for action puts additional pressure on Ablakwa and other politicians who have positioned themselves as anti-corruption advocates. Whether Ablakwa will respond to this challenge remains to be seen, but the debate over how corruption cases are handled in Ghana is likely to continue.
