Political commentator and member of the New Patriotic Party’s social media communication team, P.K. Sarpong, has accused Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, of spreading false information about the NPP government’s contributions to the Volta Region and his alleged marginalization.

In a statement, Sarpong highlighted Togbe Afede’s longstanding relationship with NPP administrations, emphasizing the success of his business ventures under their leadership. He pointed out that Togbe Afede’s company, Strategic African Securities (SAS), received considerable support from the NPP government.

Sarpong provided several examples, including Togbe Afede’s role on the Board of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) in 2008 under President John Agyekum Kufuor, where SAS served as the lead book runner for Ghana’s first GHS 50 million diaspora bond. Additionally, SAS played a key role in managing a $2.5 billion bond in 2017 and co-managed $3 billion Eurobonds in 2019 and 2020, amounting to over $8.5 billion under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.

“It’s unfortunate that, despite all the benefits he received from the NPP government, he continues to spread lies without remorse,” Sarpong expressed.

He also responded to Togbe Afede’s claim that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under John Dramani Mahama constructed most of the Eastern Corridor roads and that the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration abandoned the project. Sarpong dismissed these claims as “falsehoods,” insisting that the NPP government had undertaken more infrastructure projects in the Volta Region than any previous administration.

Furthermore, Sarpong pointed to several NPP initiatives in the region, including the completion of the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) and the provision of state-of-the-art facilities.
