Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson
Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has acknowledged the critical role the Western Naval Command plays in protecting Ghana’s territorial waters as part of its traditional duties.
He stated that the command’s role necessitates close collaboration with the government to safeguard businesses and social activities connected to the sea and the country’s territorial waters.
The Minister made these remarks while addressing the Western Naval Command as part of his familiarization tour of the various security commands in the region on Tuesday, February 18, 2025.
According to Joseph Nelson, the economic survival of Ghanaians depends heavily on effective security coordination and social protection, both of which the command provides in partnership with the government.
He commended the Western Naval Command for consistently fulfilling its mandate, ensuring that all Ghanaians can carry out their daily activities without fear or anxiety.
Joseph Nelson also acknowledged the challenges facing the command, as outlined by its leadership, and pledged to work closely with them to address these issues.
“Despite the challenges, I know you are up to the task, so let’s keep our eyes on the ball and continue to maintain security in the country,” he stated.
He emphasized that maintaining national security would allow citizens to enjoy peace and tranquility.
“While you work on our security, the rest of us (citizens) can also have our peace,” he added.
While commending the command, the Minister noted that other significant security matters needed to be discussed privately. “There are some other areas to talk about beyond here,” he remarked.
He urged the command to collaborate diligently with all stakeholders to contribute to the region’s progress.
As Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), he assured the command of his commitment to honoring all invitations extended to his office.
Commodore Emmanuel Ayesu Kwafo, Flag Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command, who led the engagement with the Minister, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting the national interest at all times as part of its core mandate.
He also assured the Minister of their full cooperation and support as he assumes his role as the Regional Security Council Chairman.
