West African Football Academy graduate, Lawrence Agyekum has revealed he is eligible to play for both Ghana and Nigeria and is ready to honour the invite of any of these two nations.
The young-sensation was born in Ghana to a Nigerian mother and this makes him eligible to play for the Super Eagles as well- something he refused to rule out in his recent interview.
The 20-year-old started his career at WAFA where his impressive performance earned him first team spot in 2020 and subsequently joined Austrian giants RedBull Salzburg two years later.
Currently, Agyekum is on a season long loan at Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge hoping to get more playing time and has made nine appearances so far in the ongoing season.
Speaking in a recent interview with OwnGoalNegeria.com, the mercurial midfielder expressed readiness to represent Nigeria even he is a born-Ghanaian and also explained into details why he is eligible to play for the former as well.
“My father is from Ghana but my mother is Nigerian. I can play for both nations. That’s one part that people don’t know about me and if the chance to play for Super Eagles comes, I won’t say no,” Agyekum said.
“I have love for both countries and want to see them do well. Not too good for Ghana in the AFCON qualifiers but they are doing well in the World Cup qualifiers. For Nigeria, the reverse is the case. I follow both closely.”
Lawrence Agyekum will hope to return to action this weekend when they travel to Union Saint-Gilloise in what will be a tricky fixture this weekend.
