The unrest that occurred in Parliament during the vetting of ministerial nominees on January 30 has taken a new turn, with Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor discussing his role in the incident.
Responding to the widely shared videos showing a heated exchange between him and Gushegu MP, Hassan Tampuli, Dafeamekpor emphasized that his actions were intended to prevent harm.
In an interview with TV3, which was reported by GhanaWeb, he described the events, stating that he intervened to protect a colleague from Western North who found himself in a precarious situation.
Dafeamekpor explained that his colleague was trapped between two tables, with one already separated, increasing the risk of injury.
He expressed concern that without his intervention, serious harm could have occurred.
“And I was standing by Akandoh and I saw what was happening to him. If I had not gone to his aid, he would have suffered some back fractures, I don’t know what would have happened to him,” he recalled.
While trying to diffuse the tension between the MPs, Dafeamekpor became embroiled in a confrontation with Tampuli.
He recounted that he urged Tampuli to step back, reminding him that they were both legal professionals and that a fight was not the solution.
