Former Asante Kotoko coach, Prince Acheampong, also known as “Sabuto,” has passed away. His death was confirmed on Monday, January 4, 2025. Kotoko shared the sad news on X (formerly Twitter), expressing their condolences to his family and loved ones.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Prince Acheampong (Coach Sabuto), the former head coach of King Faisal and assistant coach of Asante Kotoko.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, loved ones, and the King Faisal community during this difficult period. May his soul rest in peace,” Kotoko wrote in their tribute.
At the time of his death, the cause remained unclear. Sabuto had been appointed head coach of Division One side King Faisal in January 2024. His career at Kotoko had seen him serve as an assistant coach during the 2010/11 season and also as a scout for Paa Kwesi Fabin in 2018.
Sabuto was also widely recognized for his significant role in high school football. He held the position of Deputy Director at Opoku Ware Senior High School, contributing greatly to the development of young talent.
His death marks a huge loss to the football community, and his legacy will be remembered by those who worked alongside him and the players he mentored throughout his career.
